The Village of Speculator Volunteer Fire Department was christened Engine Company No. 1 when it was officially formed. The department began its days at the old village hall located on Elm Lake Road (formerly East Road). In 1969 the department raised the funds and built the current station on State Route 30 by the community park. In 2017-18 two additional bays were added and new community bathrooms for the park area and travelers passing through.
The mission of the department is to serve when called upon to protect life and property within the village. The department also responds in mutual aid when called upon to the towns around us. In this area of the Adirondacks, the department appreciates the support of the neighboring departments when larger emergency scenes arise. The department is fire and rescue emergencies only and responds on average to 40 calls per year. The department has grown and evolved over the years due to strong leaders from the past with a proactive vision and a current membership who is committed and dedicated to training to prepare for whatever needs may arise in the community. Visit the department on Facebook. SVFD is always looking for abled-bodied volunteers, so stop down for an application and join forces in serving this great community.
